About this Gallery Doorways
Doorways, entrances, and exits are the ordinary physical occasions for passages that range from everyday, casual acts (going from one room to another) to ceremonial moments across psychic borders and thresholds. Doorways have long represented to our metaphor-loving minds the ongoing inner passages we make from one state, condition, and reality to another. These images are of the bulkhead entrance to a house for sale in our neighborhood, photographed just after dusk. The figure on the steps is a friend who was helping us evaluate the house. He alerted us to the fact that the foundation of the house needed major repair.
